What's a hashtag? (Part 1)

There's actually some history about placing "#" before a search term. But then Google came out with, well, Google, and the # wasn't used by the general population anymore. For a while, anyway...
But relatively quickly, the "information age" became the "information overload age." People needed a better way to search, and thus the # staged a comeback.
Hashtags allow the content creator to indicate words/phrases that most relate to their topic. Then others can search for that content by typing in that hashtag. Hashtag searches work in Facebook, Instagram, you name it! It is a simple way that a content creator can say "Hey, when you're looking for xyz, I want my content to appear."
