Part 3: @ - more than just email, my friend!

I'm sure you're all familiar with the "shift 2" command. We used it every time we enter someone's email address. However, with the advent of "Contacts" in e-mail programs, our fingers might be missing that sequence just a bit.

Twitter to the rescue!

Same Symbol, Same Idea

In the same way that the @ symbol is used for someone's email address, Twitter uses the @ symbol for a person. So in the Twitterverse, I'm @AMilversted. This means if you want to see what I've been doing on Twitter, you can search for me. If you like what you see and don't want to search for me each time, you can click on the "follow" button. Now what I tweet and comment on will show up in your Twitter feed.

The # and the @ Will Open Doors to Your PLN

Step 1) Search for topics that interest you. My favorites are #flipgridfever, #edtech, #iteachmath, #mtbos, #NGSS, #PLN, and of course, #[insert grade level/subject matter here] always works!

Step 2) Once you find a tweet that speaks to you, find out more about the person who tweeted it! Click on their name. Read their other posts. If you feel this person would be great to have as a resource, follow them.

Step 3) Repeat often

Step 4) You can also find good # and @ on Twitter by reading other people's replies. So check out how other people responded, and I bet you'll find a few more # and @ that you've fallen in love with.

What #s did you find? What @ are you going to follow?
