LEARN MORE, DO MORE
a blog about elementary school teaching and learning

This is a "just about everything that related to elementary education" blog (and other resources, too!). My passions include: ed-tech tools, math, writing, NGSS, social-emotional learning, students with special needs, access and equity for all students, collaborative learning for teachers, and a ton more. I encourage teachers to make decisions that put students first.
#Road2E2
I'll always remember how it happened.
I was sitting at a round table at the very back of the room, with people I'd just met that day.
I knew it was time for the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT based on the image on the screen. As Robyn held up the bag filled with names, I knew I had to do everything in my power to not get my hopes up. I watched in slow motion as I planted my feet firmly on the floor and pressed my palms onto my thighs. I could feel the blood pounding through my veins and into my brain. I could hear myself inhaling and exhaling as I tried to slow my breathing down. I knew I couldn't get my hopes up. I knew I had to do some self-talk.
I lowered my eyes to the floor, and told myself, "Don't get your hopes up."
I repeated it, two more times. "Don't get your hopes up. Don't get your hopes up."
"Angela Milversted!" exclaimed Anthony.
I jumped up and screamed "Oh my God!" at the top of my lungs.
I had just been chosen to be one of ten #MIEExperts to represent the United States at Microsoft's 2020 Educator Exchange, to be held in Sydney, Australia.
Yes, you read that right. I will be representing the United States in Australia as we meet with innovative educators from countries all around the world.
My #Road2E2 is just getting started, but my path that led me to this particular moment in time is a long story itself.
(As my dad can confirm, I like long stories. Apparently not only do I like hearing long stories, especially when it's my bedtime and my dad is tucking me in, but I also like to write long stories. If you've ever been the lucky recipient of one of my 2am emails, you know this to be true.)
The compilation of stories of how I arrived at this moment has been several months in the making. I am several blog posts behind on my journey, never knowing that those experiences would lead me here. Now I have a new purpose in writing about my journey - I want to be able to share it with each of you.
I look forward to sharing my stories, and I hope you look forward to reading them and learning about my adventures as I prepare for this amazing opportunity coming my way. But for now, here are some pictures and links to social media that prove that this is real - that this actually happened. After I prepare those, I will need to take a break and pinch myself for a day or so again, just to make sure this is really happening.
Be sure to follow me on Twitter, and check my feed; I'll soon be sharing the first story - dating back over a year ago. But for now, enjoy these posts that show the moment this happened! (And if you have Tweets, posts, images, or video that captured this moment, please share them with me so I can add them here.)
